Phra Ajaan Jiak Cundo Jotiko

(1916 – 2004)

  • LP Jiak was born on 6 June 1916 at Tambon Klong Naam Khem, Laem Sing District, of Chanthaburi province. LP Jiak was a disciple of the late forest meditation master LP Mun Bhūridatta Mahā Thera.

  • Notable Contributions: Luang Puu Jiak is a revered figure in the Thai Forest Tradition, known for his deep wisdom and strict adherence to monastic discipline. Among the monks in the lineage of LP Mun, LP Jiak was well known and widely acknowledged for his insight into the Dhamma. He has established and guided numerous meditation retreats, helping many practitioners achieve deeper levels of mindfulness and concentration. His efforts in teaching and preserving the Thai Forest Tradition’s practices have made a significant impact on contemporary Buddhist practice, ensuring that these ancient teachings remain vibrant and relevant today. Ajaan Jiak’s teachings and example continue to inspire those dedicated to the path of meditation and spiritual development. Phra Ajaan Maha Boowa praised him as “gold wrapped in a rag” where he is known to be course externally but in terms of inner qualities, no one excelled him. LP Jiak passed away on 23 August 2004, at the age of 88 and has been in the Saṅgha for 68 years.
